Graves and burial

Grave types

Conventional, natural, themed and low-maintenance burial options at Ohlsdorf Cemetery.

On this page

Ohlsdorf offers conventional choice and row graves as well as numerous themed burial areas. Current availability and total costs must be clarified with the advice centre.

Conventional graves

  • coffin choice graves in different location and design categories
  • urn choice graves
  • row and anonymous graves
  • children’s graves
  • individual and family graves with private or commissioned care

Natural settings

The Ohlsdorf Ruhewald provides natural burial places for up to four urns. Ohlsdorf tree graves lie beneath mature oaks and birches, with name plaques placed on discreet granite features.

Themed burial areas

Options include the Hamburger Grab, Butterfly Garden, Gardens of Remembrance, couple areas, couple trees, wildflower garden and freely designed graves. Depending on the area, care may be included, arranged individually or unnecessary.

Columbaria and crypt

Columbaria are located in Chapels 8 and 11 and Forum Ohlsdorf. An urn crypt occupies the historic part of the Forum. Above-ground urn burials use display niches for one or two urns.

Resting period and fees

Hamburg’s minimum resting period is generally 25 years. Fees and separate care prices depend on grave type, size, location and service. Consult the current fee schedule and the cemetery administration.
